Bullying in the WorkplacePart 1Jim Murphy, of WRFI Community Radio kindly opened up his weekly show to fellow coach and dear friend, Erica Marx and myself to have a first conversation about bullying in the workplace.
We talk about what it is, who it happens to, why and when it happens, its consequences and what to do if you feel bullied at work. Bullying in the workplace is real and happening now: almost 40% of the American workforce have either been on the receiving end of, or witnessed, bullying and abusive behavior at work. Erica and I explore how this is a systems issue, which requires awareness and leadership from the top, to change. It is not just about "personality differences" and "interpersonal conflict". |

Part 2Erica and I return for Part 2. Continuing on with the conversation, with a more of a focus on teams. We discuss the concept of psychological safety when it comes to high team performance, and what gets in the way of that. We talk about what makes up toxic work places, the difference between intentions and behaviour, why you can't "just get over it" and why our "sensitivity" is an asset, not a problem.
One of the concepts we mention is David Rock's SCARF model. You can find a basic overview of that model here. |
