CRM should be required training for all humans, in how to be human. |
This training will give you an operating manual for what it is to be a human in today's complex world. |
As a DEI coach, CRM was the missing piece for me - personally and professionally. |
This training was liberating , exhilarating and enriching. I want to remember EVERY LITTLE WORD. |
Building the mindset and skills of compassion and resilience.
The Community Resiliency Model (CRM)® from the Trauma Resource Institute is, in the words of the people who learn its concepts and skills, an "operating manual on what is means to be human in today's complex world."
Trauma and resilience have become buzz words these days. The brilliance of CRM is how it combines accessible psycho-education, with real practical body-based skills. No-one is asked to talk about their feelings. No-one has to talk about what they've experienced. Rather they get to experience the hope and power of being able to reset their own natural balance, gently and effectively. Don't get stuck at trauma-informedIt's not enough just to be trauma-informed - that keeps us all stuck with our trauma. We also need to be resilience-skilled: harnessing the incredibly power of our individual and collective humanity to move through our trauma, to post-traumatic growth. The Community Resilience Model teaches us how to do just that. Breaking down cutting-edge neuroscience research into accessible information, so that we can understand how profoundly human it is to experience trauma, and how it need not define or limit us.
It's all about the nervous system"Trauma is not something that happens to us. It's what happens inside of us as a result of what happens to us." --Dr. Gabor Maté.
In the past trauma used to be understood as being about a life threatening event. With breakthroughs in neuroscience we now know that trauma is all about our nervous system. The joy and power of CRM is that it helps people tap into their innate ability to stabilize and reset their own nervous system. The relief this brings - where people no longer feel they need be at the mercy of their memories and emotions - is phenomenal. It's about communityThrough CRM we learn not only how to help ourselves, but to help others too. How to be a calm, empathetic presence even when someone else is in crisis. How to help others come back to their resilience zone by staying in our own resilience zone. CRM is not just about flourishing individuals - it's about flourishing communities. Because when we understand trauma, the nervous system and resourcing, we resource ourselves to build compassionate communities together.

I loved learning about the resiliency zone and how to help ourselves get back to that zone when we get bumped out. It explains so much about my experience and inspires me to want to help spread the word. There is a way out. We're not alone. And it's so possible. Sue is incredible at holding a safe space for us to deepen our learning and experiences. What a gift to be to be in this training with her. This was an extraordinary experience. These are actual tools to help and support people, especially in these times. Being resilient is possible and it is a community oriented approach. You get a well-developed understanding of the CRM model and exercises that support developing one’s resiliency. |
Sue Mann's CRM training was hands-down the best training I have attended in a long time.
I am a social worker, well versed in trauma-informed care and strategies for stress relief/mental wellness, but the Community Resiliency Model takes us beyond just "trauma-informed" to truly strength-based, resiliency building capacity in order to be more effective in the work we do professionally and for our own personal needs.
It is rare to leave a training with new tools that you feel confident to put to use right away, but with only a 3-hour CRM training, I have been able to do just that, and see immediate results in my own personal resilience as well as with folks I work with. I have been singing Sue's praises ever since and look forward to completing more training with her!

CRM Workshops: More than a training; it's life-building.
"Resilient people not only get back on their feet after a fall, they create meaning from their falls that positively transforms their lives and their communities."

CRM Workshops are not trainings.
They are hands-on experiences. Yes, we learn about trauma, the nervous system, our brains, memory and so much more. But what we experience concretely, during the actual workshops, is the impact of practicing the skills. Deceptively simple to teach, profound in impact when practiced, it is the experience of shifting their own nervous system activation precisely when under stress, that is more profound and life-building than any set of concepts for participants. Anyone who is experiencing rough times, or who play a role in responding to stress and trauma – finds CRM to be tremendously valuable. |
What is the the Community Resiliency Model® (CRM)CRM is an innovative, preventative, mental wellness intervention. It is a low-cost, low-intensity training, originally developed as a psychological first-aid tool in disaster situations where cognitive models were inadequate and too lengthy. CRM has evolved into a simple set of mental wellness skills that can be readily learned and practiced.
The CRM training is well accepted by health and public safety professionals. The practice of these skills contributes to increased well-being, enhanced resiliency and a greater the ability to withstand stress. CRM has a “bottom-up” (sensory mindfulness) approach, as opposed to the standard “top-down” (cognitive) approach. CRM targets autonomic nervous system regulation through an awareness of sensation in the body. Participants learn to understand the biology of their reactions to stress and trauma and they learn skills to track sensations to increase their wellbeing and resilience. Reinforcement of the skills is available at www.ichillapp.com, or the free app can be downloaded on any smartphone. |
Sue is a gift. You will gain invaluable skills and knowledge that will lift your ability to serve clients to another level. Sue was masterful in how she delivered the course and she provided us with amazing resources and supporting materials. We learned how to connect to our bodies and to access our inner wisdom to help us navigate life’s emotional ups and downs with grace, intelligence and compassion. -- Terri Delaney |
The content is deep and rich and Sue is an extraordinary facilitator. I'd take the class again in an instant, it was that beneficial. -- Katie Donaghue This has been a phenomenal experience! Thank you. Those two words are insufficient for conveying my gratitude. There's Sue's energy, loving presence, and embodiment of CRM. There's the CRM model itself - so practical, powerful, and useful! --Kathy Damas |
It was personally transformative. It's a wonderful in-depth look at the neuroscience behind a trauma-informed approach, as well as looking at the practical application with specific tips and exercises. Sue is an incredible facilitator and demonstrated the principles she was teaching beautifully. -- Tiana Doht |
I work in county jails so many of my clients are extremely stressed when I meet them. This training was so valuable to me.
I immediately started to share my favorites. I'm very appreciative that I am able to share these scientifically proven techniques that can be done anywhere and are also free!
I am grateful that, without being a therapist, I can give people practical tools that take a moment to learn and do, yet make such a tremendous difference in our quality of life!
